TIPS FOR INCOMING STUDENTS

Whether you're excited or nervous to start high school at KCI, here are some helpful tips and advice from our students!
"Ask someone already involved in the Drama department how you can get involved yourself! They’ll be more than happy to help you out.
Come out to KCI Drama’s productions, and see if it’s something that interests you. If it’s the right fit for you, join Drama Council as a representative to see/help things get put together and help make the department the best it can be and to join the fun experiences. Take a grade 9 drama class, and if you can’t take grade 10 next year! Keep a positive attitude while considering joining different clubs/groups of the school. Audition for everything and anything you can! Even if you don’t get cast, you gain audition experience and can ask how you could improve for your next one!"
"Join everything you possibly can, meet as many new people as you possibly can, just be yourself, don't care what anyone thinks, just go crazy and be yourself."
"Don't be afraid to talk to people that you don't know, especially people in other grades. Believe me older grades may look scary but they can be some of the best people you ever meet. And they give great advice. Never be afraid to ask for help from teachers because believe it or not, they can actually be quite helpful, friendly and understanding. Get involved... Seriously do it, people who don't like high school are the people not involved. It will help you grow and make even more friends. JUST DO IT."
"Get involved in whatever you can, but don't do it if you don't enjoy it, be yourself and be confident. Listen to other people and take responsibility."
"Make new friends and get involved, but don't burn yourself out. Surround yourself with people who will help you become who you want to be and not those who will hold you back from what you're passionate about. Even if you haven't found your passion, get involved and try everything until you do. Do at least one thing that you will remember for the rest of your life. And keep heavy textbooks in your locker, not your backpack, or you'll destroy your shoulders and it will be your biggest regret."
"Don't hang around with people you don't like, it's a trap all to easy to fall into. Find people you actively want to be with, and you'll have an amazing school experience."
"Remember that you are not alone and that everyone is in the same boat as you. Go to school events, get involved in anyway that you can. It's a great way to make friends and get to know people. You have so many people you can go to for help or support. Don't be afraid to talk to people in your classes. Teachers are kind and all they want is to help you succeed, don't be scared of them."
"Talk to people and make as many friends as possible. Don't be afraid to take risks and look dumb. Take grade 9 drama. Work hard on your school work, but not too hard."
"Don't be afraid to ask questions because chances are, the person next to you is also wondering the same thing. Make sure you join as much as possible and try new thing out if your comfort zone( teams & clubs) you will be surprised by the outcome and the great people you will meet."
"Don't stress out about marks just yet, yes you need to try your best but do what you need to do to make yourself a happy person because at the end of the day, you won't remember all those equations you stayed up until 4am memorizing, but you will remember the night you decided to take off homework early and spend time with people you love."
"Get involved and don't be scared! Follow your dreams."
"Don't feel like you need to start dating someone. Don't feel pushed into growing up."
"In the grand scheme of life, being happy is the most important thing. follow your passion, spend time with people you actually enjoy spending time with and don't let others opinions make you back out of what you want to do. at the end of the day you are the only one who can make yourself happy so don't try to live for other people."

"We know what we are, but know not what we may be." - Hamlet
